Jaski Art Gallery is hosting a captivating exhibition by Belgian photographer Marc Lagrange, running from Saturday 31 March through to Sunday 22 April. The title of this show: Polarotic.
Marc Lagrange (52) is one of Europe's most distinguished photographers. Through his photographs, in which his lighting technique plays a pivotal role, he elevates feminine sensuality to an extraordinary level. Though never explicit, his images exude an atmosphere of sexuality in the most serene and peaceful manner, much like the work of his other sources of inspiration: Helmut Newton and — above all — Peter Lindbergh.
His works are currently selling like hotcakes. Dutch television producer Reinout Oerlemans has a Lagrange hanging in his kitchen, and who could blame him? Marc Lagrange's work is sensual and erotic without ever becoming vulgar. Lagrange's principal theme is: alluring nudes in extraordinary settings.
The viewer is drawn, sometimes from an almost voyeuristic vantage point, into his universe of breathtaking women in wonderfully beautiful, mostly baroque interiors — undeniably chic and magical, yet at the same time deeply human and fragile.
Marc Lagrange on his ultimate ambition: "I want to elevate sensuality to a higher plane, to imbue every photograph with something that transcends reality, to create a unique experience."
